Welcome to the Varsity Heroes blog

Posted in Feedback on April 12, 2009 by varsityheroes
Varsity Heroes is currently in beta. Naturally we need lots of feedback support from all of our well-wishers, so feel free to go ballistic with comments on this blog. In fact, staying quiet is a sin. All critique is welcome and will be acted upon with fake smiles pasted fully on. Promise!
P.S. if you feel more universities should be added to Varsity Heroes and know people whom we can talk to, get in touch through contact@varheroes.com or leave a comment below. We’re eager to add more universities!

Mad scientist syndrome

Posted in Misc on November 7, 2009 by varsityheroes

storkFor a while now we’ve been having delays in launching the newest incarnation of Varsity Heroes. So when you’ve got technical downtime, what do you do?

Well you can go fishing, for one.

Or you can lock yourself up in your studio for a couple of days like a mad scientist and make a quick, short and sweet Facebook game on the side. It’s amazing what you can accomplish in 48 hours of caffeine-powered, harakiri-inducing, focussed effort.

We’ll be shortly releasing this little gem for external beta testing, so in case any of you have extra time to kill, I strongly recommend you take the plunge. Do it. Do it NOW!

Varsity Heroes goes international baby!

Posted in Game on October 25, 2009 by varsityheroes

RugbyReal football was born in 1874 when Boston staged Harvard and McGill’s historic on-field encounter. 135 years later, these two universities will again be involved in a “first ever” – the first ever international tournament of a social strategy game which will connect them across the Atlantic with their counterparts in South Asia!

As of now ,the line-up includes Harvard, McGill, GIKI, LUMS, FAST and IBA. GIKI – last time’s champions and title-holders – have been sharpening their knives since over two months now in anticipation of saying hi to their North American cousins. I’m majorly stacking up on popcorn. It will be glorious!

Note: people from Harvard, McGill, IBA – registration is now open. Come one, come all!

Kanye West, Barack Obama and a pet turtle

Posted in Game, Misc on October 15, 2009 by varsityheroes

I'mma let you finishSo the POTUS walks up to receive his Nobel and to say a few words in thanks, but just as he’s said the first few sentences, Kanye West jumps up on stage, snatching his microphone:

“Yo Mr. President, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you finish, but my baby turtle had one of the best-achieving peace-ideas of all time..”

Obama replies:

“Jackass”

True story. Okay so this didn’t come out funny, but in my head it sounded hilarious. Perhaps even the best laid plans do not survive contact with the enemy. Which is a bit like what’s been happening with Varsity Heroes – the integration schedule’s been stretching out and testing’s getting delayed. But hopefully we’re over the hump now and can deliver to the millions and millions of Varsity fans pretty soon.

Keep watching this space, friends.

Major bummer :'(

Bad dayNot a good day today. Though I’ve slept over it, I still can’t get over the fact that Obama beat me to the Nobel prize. I mean afterall we have strikingly similar resumes as far as working for peace is concerned: both of us have done zilch. Also both of us love war. Where’s the difference, anybody?

I don’t know why they chose him over me. Maybe black is trendier than brown.

Or maybe because he’s POTUS and I’m not (yet).

It’s one of those mysteries of the universe we’ll never uncover I guess. I’m hoping they’ll still give me a consolation prize though. Like a Nobel prize for literature (anyone who’s ever read this blog can vouch for my literary talents). Or for physics (I once mentioned Newton in a speech). Or medicine (also mentioned Dr. Phil in that same speech).

C’mon c’mon c’mon.

p.s. Integration of new Varsity Heroes features is almost complete. Next stop: testing.

Oh please not now!

New Look

Posted in Game on September 28, 2009 by varsityheroes

BloodA couple of posts below, I mentioned the introduction of improved weaponry in the ongoing (and hopefully never-ending) saga of Varsity Heroes. So for instance as the new wars begin, each user can look forward to having several types of units at his/her disposal – all with different offense/defense capabilities, ranges and login bonuses. Also, there may be different objectives to future wars – instead of conquering the majority of the map for example, one may be required to just conquer certain enemy bases deep in the heart of enemy territory. Or defend a particular sector for a set number of turns against the opposition’s blitzkrieg. Or annex a secret sector. Or physically go to the enemy campus under cover of the night and abduct rival heroes. Or at least shave their heads.

Note: But no need to film them tied up and crying while you wave a Rooh Afza dripping saw in a to-and-fro motion near their necks. That’ll be going too far. It’s not funny. Stop day dreaming now *slap*

I digress. We’re also ruminating over the fate of some old features from the last tournament. Remember air-attacks, retreat mode, fortification and battalion morale? These features saw mixed success when GIKI, FAST and LUMS went head-to-head – hence a little nip and tuck is called for to up the ante. One possibility we’re exploring is integrating these features straight into the new offering. E.g. air-attacks can become a separate airborne unit you control (likewise for others). Or we can merge the old features so that they become more effective in unison. Or lastly, we might just do away with the them altogether.

In a nutshell, all possibilities are on the table at the moment – and so I strongly recommend you to watch this space for more updates as things become finalized and ready to roll. Until next time.
